Cabetican, Bacolor, 2001 Pampanga
The Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes, also known as the Sunken Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes of Cabetican, is a historic Sunken Church Pampanga landmark in Bacolor, 2001 Pampanga. The church was built in 1985 with a distinctive, austere Brutalist design, while devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes in the community dates back to the arrival of her statue in 1901. Between 1991 and 1995, massive lahar flows from the Mount Pinatubo eruption buried large portions of Bacolor, partially submerging the shrine along with other prominent structures such as the town's San Guillermo Parish Church. Despite the devastation, the shrine endured and became a powerful reminder of the community's resilience and continuing Catholic faith. The church is also near Bacolor Municipal Hall, approximately a 15-minute walk away, making it accessible to visitors exploring the town. Today, the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes remains an important place of pilgrimage, prayer, history, and Marian devotion in Cabetican, Bacolor.
